Lechon Kawali is also known as deep fried pork. This good food pork recipe is one of Filipino’s favorite. And usually included in the menu list of carinderias, known as turo-turo (small eatery) and food restaurants, big or small. The recipe for Lechon Kawali is also one of the easiest to cook at home. This dish is definitely a good food. Here’s the easy recipe for it:

Serves 3-4  Prep Time 5 minutes  Cooking Time 30 minutes


500g (1 lb) pork belly with skin, whole
1 whole onion, sliced
1 liter (4 cups water) for boiling
Oil for deep-frying
Water for sprinkling
Garlic Vinegar Dip or all purpose lechon sauce


Place pork belly and onion in a stockpot, add water. Cover and bring to boil. Lower heat to medium and simmer for about 30 minutes or until pork is tender. Be sure it is not too soft or it won’t be crisp when fried.

Heat oil in a large wok or frying pan until its very hot. Carefully put prok belly in the hot oil, skin side down. Be careful, the oil will spatter, so be sure to have a cover. Cover pan and reduce heat to medium. Cook pork until skin is almost brown for about medium.

Turn pork over, skin up. Brown the other side of pork for 10 minutes. Sprinkle some water on the skin of pork to make the skin to blister, making the pork skin crispy.

Turn pork over, skin down. Continue cooking until skin is golden brown, for about 5-10 minutes.

Remove the pork from the pan and drain on paper towels.

Slice and serve with garlic, vinegar dip or all purpose lechon sauce.
